clean nails are healthy nails

Washing your hands often keeps your nails and your enhancements clean and free of bacteria. It is especially important to wash them after using the restroom, bathing, swimming, or using any sort of chemicals. Be sure to thoroughly dry them after every wash.

To extend the life of your enhancements, try to wear gloves while cleaning as some chemicals can discolor or break down the enhancement.

Daily habits can also have a big impact on your nails lasting. Do not chew or pick on your nails and remember your nails are jewels, not tools. That means they should not be used to open cans, packages, or be a screwdriver.

Daily care can be the secret to a long lasting manicure. Keep your nails healthy and hydrated by applying cuticle oil and lotion everyday. I recommend a cuticle oil that has at least 3 different oils and vitamin E. If you want a local option, check out @moon_oil on instagram. I find it is easiest to apply at night. Put your oil wherever you plug in your phone as a reminder.

24 hours after an appointment

You have your beautiful nails and now you're leaving the salon. Now what? First of all, take a picture! Post it on your social media and be sure to tag me! (@auggies.nails) You just paid for those and you deserve to show them off!

The first 24 hours after a product is applied is important because the product is continuing to polymerize (cure, harden, set, etc.). This means it is optimal to avoid soaking your hands for long periods of time. Avoid using harsh chemicals and extreme heat as well.

routine care

A single set of nails is not forever. Your natural nail will continue to grow and with that your extension will get longer and unbalanced causing pressure to the wrong part of your natural nail, which can cause damage if left for too long. It is recommended to touch up your manicure every 2-3 weeks. This also gives us a fun chance to change the design! Chemicals, heat, and long exposure to liquids can cause premature breakdown of product. Improper use of your nails and picking/tearing them can also cause damage to your natural nail.

If the time comes to remove your nails, it is best to come see me as I know the proper way to remove each type of enhancement and to keep your natural nail healthy. Your nails may seem fragile and "damaged" after removal, but that is only temporary and is actually caused by your nails not being externally oxygenated (nails can't breathe), they should not be damaged from the product. After being exposed oxygen for a few days they will return back to normal.

Artwork and design is one of my favorite parts of being a nail tech! Though I don't claim to be able to do anything and everything, I do have lots of options available. I try to keep a wide variety of colors and effects for polish as well as stamps, stickers, decals, rhinestones, jewels, glitters, inlays, and more! You are always more than welcome to look through all of this to find the perfect design. I try not to shy away from hand painted artwork and I am happy to try most things. Some artwork takes more colors, more skills, and more time. For these designs, I do charge extra. You can book this extra time when you schedule your appointment. Though it is not required, I do appreciate when you send me an example picture of what you are wanting before your appointment. This gives me a chance to practice if needed or gather any extra supplies I may need to give you the best design possible.
